Years ago if you wanted to watch history-related content then the History channel was probably your go-to. But with the fall of cable and rise of YouTube, we now have more options, though you do need to be mindful with who you’re getting your information from because of course there are people out there who are mainly in it for the money and will push out a video without verifying its accuracy.
That being said there a many awesome and well-educated history buffs on the YouTube platform who pride themselves on getting the information that they put out as correct as possible.

7 Best History Themed YouTube Channels
The 7 best YouTubers for history content, in no specific order, are The Welsh Viking, Tasting History With Max Miller, The History Guy, Weird History, Absolute History, Today I Found Out, and UsefulCharts. They all do excellent research and always provide accurate information. You can tell they are very passionate about their work and always provide quality content.
And with that let’s get into some of my current favorites!
The Welsh Viking
Focusing mainly on the Viking age. “The welsh Viking” Also known as Jim Johnson is a Ph.D. researcher, actor, and historical re-enactor.
His content consists of what life was like during the Viking age. What type of clothing was and wasn’t worn during the period, even showing how certain items were made. Historical reenactment, critiquing tv, movie, and video games based in the era. and more such as:
- What do we REALLY know about Viking women?
- How to buy Viking clothes (and what to avoid!)
- How to sew a Viking linen tunic.
- How to start in historical re-enactment.
- Reenactorisms: Viking fashion that isn’t Viking.
- I review over 60 YEARS of questionable Hollywood Viking costumes!

Tasting History With Max Miller
Starting his channel in feb 2020 Max combined two of life’s greatest subjects Food and History!
Where each week you’ll learn a new quirky yet delicious recipe while Simultaneously learning its even quirkier backstory.

The History Guy
Lance Geiger, also known as, “the history guy” is a 54-year-old bow-loving history buff with (as of March 2021) just shy of 1 million subscribers! he creates videos about stories of forgotten history. The history that deserves to be remembered, such as:
- Robertson, Phillips, and the history of the screwdriver.
- When a dropped wrench nearly blew up Arkansas.
- History and sewage: the great stink of 1858.
And more all between five and fifteen minutes long. New episodes are posted Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
Weird History
Weird History is an education-based channel that tells the tales of history that your social studies class never covered in high school, this channel is for the extreme, the unexpected, the untold, and the flat-out weird parts of history. Because as weird as people seen today, we don’t hold a candle to history.
On weird history you’ll find Videos about all time periods such as
- Year 536 was the worst year to be Alive – What Happened?
- How Teddy Roosevelt Got Shot and Still did an 84 Minuet Speech.
- Dramatic facts about the life of Anne Boleyn.
- What happened immediately after JFK was shot?
- The plague that made people dance themselves to death.

Absolute History
Home of fun, shocking and curious tales from throughout history. Tony Robertson’s worst jobs in history to Susannah Lipscomb’s hidden killers,
Along with playlist filled with content such as With almost 400 videos all ranging from 20 minuets to an hour long and covering a wide variety of topics such as
- How the Viking belief in afterlife empowered their warriors
